University of New South Wales
Lucy Barrie is a final year mining engineering student at the University of New South Wales and is the current AusIMM Sydney Student Chapter President. She is also on the committees of the AusIMM Sydney Branch and NSW WIMNet, as well as the UNSW Minerals and Energy Resources Society.
Lucy has completed vacation work with Glencore Copper in Mount Isa, within their Mine Services team. Here she was able to spend time with different crews and technical teams including fill and construction, production, underground surveyors, health and safety and project engineers. This work gave her an invaluable experience to supplement her current university studies.
While at university, Lucy works closely with the Faculty of Engineering and School of Minerals and Energy Resources, running workshops, school outreach activities and the Girls in Engineering Club for high school students. Through this she hopes to be able to promote engineering and particularly mining engineering and its importance high-schoolers who may then choose to pursue a career in the resources industry.
